The UCM food bank is serving increasing number of families this year and needs the support of good neighbors like you.

Mount Vernon Unitarian Church Hosts “Toward Net-Zero Energy Fair” Nov. 5
Mount Vernon Unitarian Church (MVUC), which recently converted its heating and cooling system to geothermal and solar energy, is hosting a Toward Net-Zero Energy Fair from 9:30 to 12:30 Saturday Nov. 5 at the Chapel, 1909 Windmill Lane, Alexandria, Va. The church is just off Ft. Hunt Road, up Mason Hill Drive to Windmill.
The fair includes speakers on MVUC’s experience and results, federal and state incentives for renewable heating and cooling systems, and how renewable systems affect property values. The free event is designed to provide homeowners and decision makers for places of worship or public buildings with information on renewable systems.
Vendors for geothermal and solar installations as well as energy auditors will be available throughout and after the presentations. For more information, see www.mvuc.org/netzero.
Bicycle collection for the Bikes for the World Organization
Bring any old, unused bikes you would like to donate to help benefit people in other countries. The event is an Eagle Scout project and will take place on September 17th from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at St. Aidans Episcopal Church (8531 Riverside Rd., Alexandria, VA). $10 donation per bicycle to handle the overseas transportation is encouraged.
